Personal care products and your health

The skin is the largest organ of the body. Should we be careful about what we put on it? We thinks so.

Most of us some kind use personal care product every day. You might even choose to use so called “safe” and “healthy” products.

Unfortunately product claims like these and others (eg. “natural”, “organic” or “no nasty”) are more about selling the product than what is actually in the product.

Manufacturers often go to extrodinary lengths to make it difficult for consumers to know the exact ingredients (eg. saying fragrance but not saying which one, or all of them, or saying Phthalate-Free fragrance when very few have phthalates anymore), what the hazard status is (according to GHS) and what the risks are.

We would highly recommend that you take a closer look.

What types of personal care products should we be aware of?

All of them, including…

  • Makeup (eg. lipstick)
  • Perfumes and fragrances
  • Antiperspirants and deodorants
  • Hair shampoo and conditioner
  • Hand soap, body wash and bubble bath
  • Talcum powder
  • Sunscreen
  • Fake tanning products
  • Head lice treatments
  • Toothpaste

Read the labels

When you read the label of the products you use, look at the ingredients list. Research each ingredient and understand the risk of each one.

Is the product hazardous at the ingredient level?

Are there better options available?

Are you prepared to compromise on performance for a healthier solution?
